Captain Lou Albano

For close to forty years Captain Lou Albano was involved in professional wrestling. In one way or another. Lou had made quite an impact on professional wrestling.

In the late fifties he wrestled as part of the tag team Scicilians. His tag team partner was Tim Altmore. There ring attire was what would be considered stereotypical Italian Gangster wear.

Despite the fact that there abilities were limited they managed to win a few titles. Such as the Mid West Tag Team title and the United States Tag Team Titles.

But Lou didn't really bloom into a huge star until he after he ended his partnership with Tim Altmore. To become a manager. Once he became a manager he changed his look to a more outrageous, flamboyant look. He wore rubber bands in his beard and wore Hawaiian style shirts.

He managed some of the meanest singles wrestlers of the time. Such as Fred Blassie, Toru Tanaka, and Ivan Koloff. He was managing them all to go after WWF Heavyweight Champion Bruno Sammartino for the title.

To which one of them did beat him and take is title that he had held for 7 years. The man that did it was the "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff.

Lou was much better guiding his tag teams to the gold than he was with his singles. He was able to guide 15 different tag teams to win the gold. Examples of his amazing tag teams are Wild Samoans, The Valiant Brothers, Saito & Fuji, and The British Bulldogs.

Lou had also brought the world of MTV in to wrestling that would be come known as the Rock'n Wrestling connection. Such has having Cyndi Lauper come to the ring with him. Some say that he is also part of the reason that Wrestlemania was such a huge success.

Even today Captain Lou Albano is one of the most recognized wrestling personalities in the history of wrestling. In 1996 the World Wrestling Federation inducted him into there hall of fame. No wrestling hall of fame would be complete without Captain Lou Albano!

Don't forget that the Captain also appeared in a couple of Lauper's videos. I believe they were "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "She-bop".
